Project P6a: Resilient cattle (heat tolerance)

This study aims to enhance the selection of heat-tolerant dairy cattle by integrating artificial intelligence into the current model used to calculate the Australian Breeding Value for Heat Tolerance.

A comparative analysis found a high correlation between the current and AI models, suggesting similar heat tolerance estimates. However, the analysis indicated lower modelling error in the AI model, which may translate into more efficient ABVs in the future. The authors propose a combined AI and statistical approach as a more accurate and efficient method for identifying heat-tolerant cattle.
