Can you help?

Dairy UP

Above: Dairy UP PhD student, Jia Ling Vivien Tan, is analysing Kikuyu DNA samples in a bid to better understand Kikuyu toxicity in dairy cattle.

Dairy UP is looking for help from dairy farmers to solve a problem that’s plagued producers for decades – Kikuyu toxicity.

Our researchers for P1b: Kikuyu toxicity are looking for grass and soil samples from dairy farmers with suspected Kikuyu poisoning. These samples will help create a database of “toxic” and “normal” Kikuyu characteristics.

Autumn is the prime time for cattle to show the effects of Kikuyu toxicity, especially in regions that have gone through a dry summer and receive an early season break.
