PhD Graduated – Congratulations Alice Shirley

Ian Lean

Congratulations to Dairy UP researcher Dr Alice Shirley who recently graduated with her PhD. Alice’s research formed part of Dairy UP’s P6a project: Resilient cattle (heat tolerance).

Alice analysed data from pasture-based cows fitted with rumen sensors (which monitored body temperature and water intake), to determine that drinking behaviour can be used as a reliable indicator of heat stress. Her findings create new opportunities for adding data and improve the reliability of DataGene’s Heat Tolerance Australian Breeding Values which currently based solely on genomic information.
