Housing cows as a way to intensification is increasing in Australia. With feed being the largest cost of producing milk, developing modern and efficient feedbase options for these systems is paramount for their success.
This PhD project will integrate advanced technologies (precision agriculture, real-time monitoring of plants and soils, advanced modelling) to develop and test new and innovative forage options for intensive systems with the ultimate goal of increasing farm resilience, reducing risk of exposure to extreme climate and achieving more efficient use of scarce resources, particularly water and land (cost reduction).
